Throwing a Couples Dessert Shower

Spring is shower season to summer's wedding season, and throwing a couples shower for your favorite bride and groom is all the rage. Often in addition to or instead of a traditional bridal shower, where a friend or family member hosts a party for the bride-to-be, many are opting for a mixed shower where the honored guests are both the bride and groom, and guests are both male and female. (Remember it's important to get input from the happy couple as you consider this option).

Instead of traditional hors d'oeuvre's and cocktails, think about a late afternoon dessert and beverage bar as the food options at your event. Offer guests bite sized desserts and/or a chocolate fountain and hot and cold beverage bar. Instead of a traditional buffet table consider arranging a trio of short and tall cocktail tables covered in floor length table linens that either match or enhance the couple's wedding colors. Offset the food station with a coffee or mixed beverage bar on the opposite side of the room, and cover the table with floor length draped linen. Add décor elements to your table that fit the theme of this event. For example, if throwing a kitchen shower (where guests would bring gifts related to the couple's kitchen,) arrange gorgeous spring blooms like peonies, tuber rose and poppies in a colander, water pitcher or saucepan.

The Checkers Special Event division will be happy to help you select your linens from a wide variety of colors, textured and patterned linens, and table rentals. They will also put together a custom dessert and coffee bar menu. You can select items from the Special Events menu on the Checkers website or call the office to have a package mailed to you. For your convenience, we have included a sample shower menu to give you an idea of the many menus we can put together to further enhance your event.

Send your invitations at least 3-4 weeks prior to the shower, and give your guests a parting favor with the name of the bride and groom and their wedding date attached for attendee's to remember the wonderful event they attended in honor of the bride and groom.

Checkers will be happy to assist you with centerpieces, themed décor and favor choices too.
